On the beginning I need to admit that I do not know German language, so I need to write in English.

My name is Marek and I can say that I am your neighbor from abroad, because I live at the moment in Poland.

I am the owner of Heinkel Tourist 103 A2 year 1964, which I bought 3 months ago. Now it is in peaces due to restoring process, which I'm doing on my own.

Maybe few words about me. I'm 24, student of Electrical Engineering, currently working on my master degree project - Ignition controlled by microprocessor. I want to connect my work with my hobby.
I'm riding bikes for about 10 years. I'm also owner of KTM LC4 400 year 2000 (dirtbike)

Now a bit more interesting things :

Heinkel...
...was not in the best shape. Previous owner had 2 of them, this one was for parts... He put engine back to frame and sold it to me. What I can spot now - rear fender is missing. It was in garage or rather shelter for about 15 years. Engine was covered in oil and dust, but there was no big corrosion. Engine started after few turns of dynostarter.

So far problems occurred :
- piston need to be replaced
- welded clutch basket (already bought new one)
- crankcase got chips
- one gear-wheel in gearbox is broken
- broken taillight ( need new frame) - I heard that you can buy a metal one? Is that true?
- gear lever is missing
- rear fender is missing
- bent rims

I started my work with engine. Want to make it first. Then I will start with frame, body work etc. I want to renew all elements, even those, which You do not see. It will be like new, but better I will do all electric work on my own due to my profession (used to do electric looms for tanks and other military purposes)

In this topic I would like to ask you questions (I bet that I can find answer on this forum, but the thing is I do not know German, so... be patient please )
and also would like to inform you how does the work go.

first of all a warm welcome from me and i think also from all the other members of this community. Its nice to hear about another young Heinkel fan somewhere in the world. As i saw in your pics your scooter is in not such a bad condition as you said, i have seen worse ones. Getting parts is no problem, the A2 model is actually the most sold one of all Heinkel scooters and nearly any part is available at the Heinkel club store.
English is no problem, some of our members understand it and i think they are willing to help you and i can help you as well.
Another way to get informations is on facebook. Look at Heinkel tourist scooter enthusiasts.

Do you know, that the Heinkel-Club Deutschland e.V.(http://www.heinkel-club.de) has localized the club website to the English language? Meanwhile about 400 members of the Club are from abroad.
Click to the "british" little flag on the top.
In the download area you will find "English" workshop manuals for Heinkel scooter.
The other good source for information in English languge is the Heinkel-Club partner site from our North American friends.

I have small stop with my work on my A2.

I need few parts:
- gear-wheel
- piston (now got 60,45), where I can get one? only at the club ?
- new chains (one for wheel, and second for clutch basket), where I can get one? only at the club ?
- new tires (anybody got continental k62 with white stripe ?, what size of tires do I need? old ones are 3.5 and 4.0, what size should be on spare wheel?)

This week I'm going to restore my rims, need to make them round again, because they are like eggs, but first sandblasting.
Do you think that I can put chrome on them ? (If they are in good condition, need to take off this ugly paint) or better is powder-coating ?

Hi and welcome Marek,
I just put rust-prevention on it sprayed my rims - originaly, they were lacquered. I wouldn't put too much work into the visual condition of the rims. Sure, they should be round and not too dirty... But at the end You can't see them anyway, because of the body and they are getting dirty anyway from the street.

If you don't see them it does not mean that they can't look brilliant. I want to refurbish every single part.

I just heard that chrome may fall off from welded places. After sandblasting I will make decision if rims are in good condition (no wastage) I will probably chrome them.

Hello Members!

I spent quite a lot hours in garage and got some results.

Rims were sandblasted, now they went for making them straight. After that I will decide to chrome or to paint them.

I also received new clutch basket (my was welded).



I started to polish details, here I got some results :





I also took handlebar into pieces, cleaned everything, now waiting for sodablasting to make everything shine.

About body panels:
I want to take off whole paint to raw metal, first I want to use paint-remover (waiting for mask to prevent inhalation of all toxic gases), then it will go for sandblasting to remove rust, then for welding (places where rust ate metal), then for zinc-plating and at the end for painting.

Still looking for gearbox, rear fender and new piston
