The new teflon shifter cables have eliminated the second gear clumsiness. Now I just move the shifter from notch to notch to select gears. This seems to be working. At first the hammering seemed to have no effect. But today I struck the pushrod harder, and I see that the pushrod is straightening. I strike it 100 times and check the straightness on my bench. The repair seems to require thousands of blows.

I can push the standard iron valve guide with my thumb. So the bore is too large for standard guides. The new bronze ones are .05mm OD larger than the bore. The bore is not very smooth when I look at with a magnifying glass, but I would think that when the aluminum cools and shrinks around the ...

Why are bronze guides provided by the Club? Are they considered superior to steel guides?
